I would like to request a custom painting. How do I do that?

What do you do when you love an artist’s work but haven’t quite found the piece that awakens your soul. One option you can do make sure you are on the artist’s email list as this is where most artist’s will release new collections first. The other option if you don’t want to wait until “your painting” is born, you can request a commission.

Commissioning a piece of art can feel daunting and exciting at the same time! Let me encourage you with a few simple tips to help make the process go smoothly for you. It always helps to know what to expect!

*Every artist will have a slightly different commission process. This is mine.

THE PROCESS:

  1. After you have contacted me inquiring about a commission, I will respond by sending you a short 8 question questionnaire. The questions are to help get you thinking and will make our in person conversation a minimal time commitment from you. I will reach out shortly after to schedule a phone or Zoom call to go over the questionnaire and answer any questions you may have about the commission process. After we converse, I will put together a commission proposal and request the non-refundable deposit.

The deposit secures your spot on my commission schedule. The average commission takes 8 - 12 weeks depending on size and other commissions before you.

  2. Next, I get to work on your painting! Due to how I work, I will not send frequent update images. When I am near completion I will reach out and schedule a viewing; either in person at my studio or your home. If in person is not an option, we schedule a live video call.

This is when minor changes can be suggested by you. At this point if the painting is not what you are looking for, you are not obligated to continue with the commission. I retain the painting and will apply your deposit to another painting I have in one of my collections.

  3. The final stage will be completed with your suggestions and I will apply the top seal coat, UV varnish, paint the sides of the canvas as well as install hanging hardware on the back. I will schedule the final delivery or shipping with you. The last payment will be due at this time.
